Waiting is Not Wasting Time

Waiting is tough but holds purpose. How can we be active and brave in times of simply standing by?

Mothers do a lot of waiting.
You take a pregnancy test – you wait.
It is positive – you wait.
You drop your child at his first day of school – you wait.
Your teen drives alone for the first time – you wait.
Your son goes off to fight in a war – you wait.
Your daughter calls to say she is in labor – you wait.
(My daughter has six children. That’s a lot of waiting.)
I love one dictionary’s definition of waiting: “To remain - to stay or linger - in readiness for some purpose.”
Waiting is not wasting time. Waiting has purpose.
Waiting gives us opportunities:
To learn to trust in the promises of the God Who keeps His promise.
To discover the depths of our own faith in our Father Who is completely faithful.
To more fully comprehend the importance of being (truly) solely dependent on God and Him alone.
Scripture gives us instructions on how we are to act while we wait:
With courage – Psalm 31:24, “Be strong, and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in (wait for) the Lord.”
With patience – Psalm 40:1, “I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, and heard my cry.”
With hope – Psalm 130:5, “I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope.
Quietly – Psalm 62:5, “My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him.”
(This one is my favorite!)
With expectation – Micah 7:7, “But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me.”
One day I was helping my daughter plant flowers near her front porch. My grandson asked to crawl under the porch to retrieve a ball. She said, “Sure, go ahead.” I would have said No! I imagined all the dangers that might be lurking under there. “Well, there might be danger,” my daughter explained. “But I would rather teach my son to imagine there is not.”
Hope. Expectation.
The confident anticipation of something good.
I will watch expectantly to see what my God is going to do.
I will not imagine the “could or might happens”.
I will think of my God who saves me.
Remember, God is a parent too. He knows intimately your mother heart and its connection to your child. He leans His ear down to hear your mother prayers.
Wait actively, sweet Mamas.
Wait bravely.
Let’s turn time waiting into time winning!
